Gray - I wanted to respond to your response to Phil--

The debate over whether to start PD meds as soon as the need is felt, or to
delay starting them as long as possible, is one that we'll probably still be
having on the PD net until the cure is found. I just wanted to say that the
two meds you've tried are more likely to cause side effects than Sinemet,
which is the primary PD med. Artane, particularly, is nasty stuff. And an
informal survey in our support group indicated that at least half the members
had dropped the Eldepryl because of side effects.

For what it's worth, Dr. William Koller, of The University of Kansas Medical
Center, is one of the foremost PD experts in the country, and in fact is
internationally known for his expertise. He does not see any benefit to
delaying the start of Sinemet once the symptoms begin to be noticeable. I
would just urge you not to delay the start of Sinemet to the point that your
job or your quality of life is affected. If you're like most PWP, you won't
have the same type of side effects with Sinemet that you had with Eldepryl or
Artane.

Good luck to you. Margie Swindler cg for Dick, 52/15 [log in to unmask]
