This letter is long overdue. Just would like to let you know how Suraiya's
tolcapone trial is going. She began last fall. Previous to the Tolcapone,
she was having severe and frequent on/off periods, unable to get up from the
sitting position. She was experiencing many bad side affects from her permax
and was often depressed. The trial began with an initial dosage of 100mg of
Tolcapone for the first 6 weeks. After only a week on the tolcapone, Suraiya
felt AMAZING (as she puts it). She gained a lot of her energy back, was not
as depressed as often and had more desire to do activities and go out. After
six weeks the dosage was changed. She either received the same amount, a
placebo or double the dosage (200mg). We do not know which. She has slowed
down a bit since the second stage (She sometimes has a difficult on/off in
the afternoon). She is notas bubbly as initially, and since we don't know
the dosage there is no telling why. However, she says she fells SO MUCH
better than she had felt before. She is in the third phase now, which is a
repeat of the second. Her neuro assured her that once the trial is over, and
the drug is approved, she will remain on the Tolcapone, which makes her very
happy!! She feels the tolcapone has made a huge increase in her quality of
life. She undergoes periodic half day and full day tests. Her neuro says she
is doing much better, but he also doesn't know what the dosages are (the
pills are pre arranged and packaged by the drug company.

I will keep you up to date.

Take care,
Deanna
