XII International Symposium On PD (3 May 1997)

Thanks to Dr. A. Lang, Co-Editor-In-Chief of the journal Movement
Disorders, I have the printed abstracts from the XII International
Symposium on Parkinson's Disease, held at London, England, 23-26
March 1997. In 3 long days, some 537 reports of recent research, in
41 broad subject categories, were presented to attendees. That is
far too many to review here, or even to list individual titles, so
we must compromise. First, a word about the organization of this
huge scientific meeting:

One purpose of such meetings is to let researchers from the world
over exchange and discuss in person with their colleagues, recent
results that have not yet been reviewed and published in the
regular archival journals. The presentations are oral, only very
loosely screened, and announced by "poster" containing an abstract.
The reports in each broad subject category are given simultaneously
in as many separate rooms as needed, so that each attendee may pick
only the ones of most interest to him. Meanwhile, the institutional
addresses of other authors are made available, for possible future
correspondence or visits.

The abstract collection is published as Supplement 1 to Volume 12
of Movement Disorders, in a book of about 150 pages that appeared
with the April 1997 issue. To respect both space and copyright
limitations, I'll furnish a list of titles in any ONE of the subject
categories listed below, only to those who specificaly request it.
In cases of unusual interest, I may also furnish a brief review to
let people decide if they want to pursue the subject further in
their local library. For those having access, Movement Disorders is
listed in Index Medicus/MEDLINE and several other places.
