Please post this on the Parkinson's listserv. Thanks. Mike

**IMPORTANT NOTICE**

**IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED**

On Wednesday, May 21, Sentor Connie Mack (R-FL) will offer an amendment
on funding for the National Institutes of Health to the Budget
Resolution currently before the full Senate.

The Mack Amendment will express a "Sense of the Senate" that funding for
the NIH should be doubled over the next 5 years and that $2 billion
should be added to the NIH budget in fiscal year 1998.

If passed and funded as written, the Mack Amendment would not eleminate
the urgent need for the Udall bill, but it would show Congress's support
for greater investment in medical research, as well as provide more than
adaquate funds to cover the Udall bill's proposed $68 million increase
in Parkinson's research.

Call, fax or email your Senators Tuesday and Wednesday (May 20 and 21)
and urge them to support the Mack Amendment! You can call your Senators
toll-free by dailing the Capitol switchboard at (800) 962-3524, and
asking the operator to connect you with your Senators' offices.

Call Michael Claeys, PAN's Community Outreach Coordinator, at
(800)850-4726 with any question or comments.
