(22 May 97) PWP generally take a lot of prescription drugs, both in
quantity and in variety. While price of any particular drug is
secondary to its usefulness, it may be interesting to compare
prices of several that are commonly used by PWP. Of course the price
varies widely with the source. Some HMO members pay nothing at all,
or a standard token amount; some find big savings in buying by mail,
possibly from outside the US; while others with insurance coverage
may pay the full retail price. So just for a standard basis of
comparison, I asked a local (Los Angeles) drugstore for their
current prices. The quotes below are per tablet, in the strength
and number indicated. There may be generics other than those shown,
which this particular store didn't carry:
