Thanks to all who were able to e-mail my father last week on his 80th birthday. As the messages mounted up, he was clearly elated, though he grumbled that he was "too damn popular to get any gardening done." At last count, he'd received almost 100 messages from all over the world, and was wondering why the Pope had failed to post anything. You should all receive a message back, though it will take him some time. He's been busy on e-mail dispensing gardening advice, discussing the French Open tennis finals, and debating the relative merits of rums of different colour. He still managed to plant 75 boxes of flowers on Saturday, with some help from his children and grandchildren. Of course, he gets an early start: he was up, as usual, at 6:00, and bicycled to the local village (4 miles, including a steep hill) to buy the newspaper. I'm hoping to be able to do what he can when I'm 50! Again, thanks to all. Anthony
