Barb Smith.. As a former long-time canker sore sufferer. my dentist (going back about 3 dentists ago) prescribed Kenalog in Orabase and Xylocaine (sp) VISCOUS (for the mouth). I mixed a small amount of each together, placed it in my mouth over the canker sore, and kept it there all nite as I slept (I know... sounds yucky... but ya DO forget about it being there, and it WORKS). The canker sore would stop hurting when I awakened the next day. and would be GONE the day after. My current dentist had prescribed Peridex Oral Rinse because I had some dental inflammation. I noticed that tho I no longer frequently get canker sores, when I DID - while using the Peridox rinse - the canker sore would be gone within a few hours of using the rinse. For what it's worth... We were told it was a side effect of longterm sinemet use. Our periodontist suggested brushing with periodent(a prescription product) and after using it for over a year, my husband is almost free of gum inflammation. I wonder if canker sores would respond the same way. Barbara Smith,CG Ken 69/16
