I've got a couple of students, recently graduated with honours BAs in English, who are looking for places to continue their studies but in a, shall we say, more practical area than literary history and analysis. Both are interested in writing, editing, and the practice of written language. Both would be looking for financial help or concurrent employment. Both would be willing to go to the States, but all things equal (except the dollar) would prefer to stay in Canada. They don't necessarily want traditional academic careers, but they're looking for postgraduate programs which would give them some options. Rhetoric and comp, applied linguistics, communication? I know a few places (actually, rather a lot of them) where there are people I'd recommend they work with, but I really don't trust my limited knowledge (much less my deep-seated prejudices). So, here are two related questions: 1. Do you know of a program you'd recommend they inquire about? 2. Where would _you_ recommend they start looking for useful and reliable listings of such programs? If people will send me (off line is probably best, rather than posting it to the whole CASLL list) whatever information or suggestions you've got I'll assemble it all and put it on a website, which we can link to the Inkshed site. I think that might be a valuable resource. -- Russ __|~_ Russell A.
