Subject: Re: NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS

It's all great and I'll bet if he stopped taking them he would not feel as
good. My husband takes those as well as nadh, sun chlorella a, pycnogenol,
l-carnitine, liquid deprenyl, a multi-mineral and actually a few others I
can't remember. Yes, lots of pills and expensive. He has been able to take
less sinemet though and his energy is great. We keep searching and even
experimenting and reading and waiting for something definitively new and
effective to emerge. I love the list and all the opinions and information.
As always, we must do what feels right for us and just pass on what occurs
if it's positive. I love hearing about the more natural methods people use
to control symptoms etc. as well as the more conventional drug therapies.

I have been trying the following nutritional supplements and would be interested
in learning of the experiences of other PWPs with these and any others
supplements
including info on daily dosages and benefits and side effects.
Are there any Neurologists who believe in their application to PWPs?
My Neurologists doesn't know about them and doesn't want to know.

As in the case of the above note,I have been able to reduce the amount of
L-Dopa,
and have more energy. Also, my tremor is reduced. In six weeks,I reduced my
Dopicar
dosage from 5/4 pill to 3/4 pill. One pill consists of 25mg Carbidopa and
250mg Levadopa.
I also continue to take Deprenyl-Selegiline HCL 5mg twice a day.
I try to do PD exercises daily for about an hour.
There is no apparent improvement of my slowness, breathing difficulties, and
balance
instability.

My Daily Dosage List

Vit.E 1000 IU x2
Reduced L-Glutathione 200mg x3

I was taking NAC(N-Acetyl-Cysteine) but stopped based on
a negative report posted to this list by Linda Carlton.

I plan to add Acetyl l-Carnitine and multi-mineral.
The following excerpt on Acetyl l-Carnatine may be of interest.
--------------------------------------------------
acetyl l-carnitine

One of the most exciting discoveries in the area of cognitive enhance=
ment is
the natural substance known as acetyl l-carnitine. This is a derivati=
ve of
the amino acid-like nutrient l-carnitine. Carnitine is well known as =
a
beneficial nutrient for the cardiovascular system, especially due to =
its
ability to strengthen the heart and reduce cholesterol and triglyceri=
des.
Carnitine facilitates the entry of fats into the mitochondria of cell=
s to be
burned for energy.=20

The acetyl form of l-carnitine has these attributes, as well as remar=
kable
effects on mental function. Among other benefits, many dozens of clin=
ical
trials have found acetyl l-carnitine to reverse age-related memory lo=
ss;
successfully treat depression in the elderly; improve blood flow to t=
he
brain; and even to successfully treat symptoms of Alzheimer's Disease=
.
Although most of the research has been on elderly patients, acetyl
l-carnitine has been shown to improve mental performance and reflex s=
peed in
young, healthy adults as well.=20

In general the results of the research has been very impressive, and
although the dosages used were generally quite high, the acetyl l-car=
nitine
did not have a high risk of side effects or toxicity.=20
