In addition to what others have posted about this, you may need to check on
the quantity and quality of your dad's sleep.  As people get older they seem
to more prone to have sleep deprivation/sleep interruption/lack of REM sleep
problems even though they may be getting as much actual lieing down time as
before.  Anybody who has spent several days in hospital can tell you that the
institutionally induced sleep interruptions can greatly enhance one's ability
to hallucinate.
