Bruce,

I am glad that now you are taking your Sinemet before food you are doing
better. This "food-Sinemet timing" comes up frequently but is always worth
emphasising for the benefit of new list members.

It is also worth emphasising for people who have been succesfully taking
Sinemet with food for some time and suddenly run into increased symptom
problems. Many, including myself at the time, don't immediately realise
that the "food reduced" amount of l-dopa is no longer sufficient for their
needs. Remember, falling even a little below the Sinemet requirement, can
have quite a large effect on the PD. Most people will find that there will
come a time when they can no longer waste a large portion of the l-dopa
availability by taking it with food. Those who are having no trouble taking
Sinemet with food, simply have a lower requirement and can afford to waste a
little.

Also, do not fall into the trap of believing that ONLY protein interferes
with Sinemet. My neurologist told me ALL food interferes with Sinemet and I
have found this to be the case. In other words, all the advice of saving
protein for evening meals is good advice BUT, don't fall into the trap of
thinking, "It is a low protein meal, it will not affect at all.".

The important thing, is to give the Sinemet a good start of 30mins to an
hour (40-45 mins works best for me). As a matter of fact, I have found that
if the Sinemet gets a really GOOD start, even quite large amounts of protein
do not interfere too much for me.

Good luck,

Ernie. 54/3.7
