I think this is a common reaction at first(withdrawal from friends and public
contact). However, if a person can come to terms with or to some level of
acceptance of the PD, then being in public or with friends without PD becomes
easier and more fun.
I went out to dinner not long ago alone. I was sitting at a table and a couple
from out of town at the next (strangers). We started talking and it was great.

It took me quite awhile before I could be in public while my symptoms
(especially the tremor) was very active. Now I do not worry about it, unless I
am at a meeting and I don't want to shake the table apart. Then I take my
sinemet and sit quietly.
