     Dear Milton:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Morris K. Udall
Parkinson's Research, Education and Assistance Act of 1997. I
appreciate hearing from you regarding this important matter.

This bill has been reintroduced in the 105th Congress. I
support
this legislation and am a co-sponsor of it. As you know in the last

Congress, I agreed to co-sponsor S. 684, the Udall Bill, which was
introduced by Senator Hatfield on April 6, 1995. This bill
concerned
research for Parkinson's disease and related disorders and
specifically would increase federal funding for research to $100
million in fiscal year 1996, compared to the $25 million it was
funded
in 1995. S. 964 was referred to the Senate Labor and Human Resources

Committee and further action by the Committee was not taken.

As a co-sponsor of this bill, I fully support any future research

that may help to find a cure for Parkinson's Disease. I will
continue
to do all that I can to support efforts like these in the 105th
Congress and also to keep your views in mind. I remain hopeful that

through a cooperative exchange of ideas a cure for this painful and
disabling disease will be found soon.

Again, thank you for writing regarding Parkinson's Disease. Please

continue to keep me informed on this and other issues of concern to
     you.

                                        Sincerely,

                                        Jeff Bingaman
                                        United States Senator

     JB/sd
