Dear Barb Smith--I'm really glad that Aricept has been so helpful to Ken. As you told me, he has an atypical dementia. In Peter's case, he was on Aricept a month (5mg) and we saw no improvement in memory,cognition, etc. but did feel that after a couple of weeks the nausea,insomnia,and espec- ially the loss of appetite, were side effects--they have gone or diminished now that he is off Aricept. A real disappointment! He would not eat, and was weighed at the doc's this week at 125 1/2 lbs--normal for him has been about 140-145 lbs! (He's 5'11" tall) I mention this only as a "red flag" in case others on thelist note a loss of appetite with Aricept--the 3 things we noted were all listed as possible side effects in the insert.Thank goodness Peter is now eating again, and getting back some of the strength he lost.
