Dear Dave,
1)Has a movement disorders specialist diagnosed your father with
idiopathic Parkinson's?
2)How long has he been using Sinemet?
3)Has the response always been the same, or is the "non-response" new?
4)Does he take the Sinemet on an empty stomach?
5) Does he take Sinemet or Sinemet CR?

As you say you are not satisfied with his neurologist, I'm wondering if
the neuro is a specialist in PD, which can make a great difference in
both diagnosis and treatment. If your father has been taking Sinemet for
7 years, with no response to Sinemet, perhaps you need a second opinion.
However, if he has responded to Sinemet in the past, and the
non-response is relatively new, his medications may need to be adjusted.
And, finally, if he takes Sinemet with his meals, response can be
altered considerably. It is preferable to take both Sinemet and Sinemet
CR on an empty stomach, although the CR can be used with food. Also, CR
may have less of an effect than regular Sinemet.

Best regards,
Kathrynne
