Hi Billy, I'm sure Darrell knows that the quarts of beer he drinks are
depressants-that's exactly what he wants-something to take away the blasted
tremor that is driving him crazy and that he can not accept. Many days he
stays busy-our roles have reversed and now I work full time and he is retired
and stays home and takes care of the house. He does a great job, better than
I did in many ways-he does not cook so I have that over him! But then the old
wounded ego kicks in and depression sets the mood to just numb it all-with
mostly beer, but sometimes wine. I'm sure he is very angry with the disease
and just refuses to seek help for the feelings that accompany it. He did see
a shrink for a few years, but never really opened up to her, and ended his
sessions. He refuses to attend an area support group-I went a few times, but
with working, the meetings were mostly lunch meetings and quite honestly, the
group was much older than our 52 and 48. So, I'm glad I found this PD
listserve-I've already read alot about new drugs and will try to interest
Darrell in reading the messages. So far he says he shakes to much to sit
still and read more than a few lines. He has had the disease for 5 years now.
So, thanks for the response. Hope to hear from you soon. I live nearAkron,
Ohio. Linda Smith
