My name is Leonard Cyphers I live in Lawrenceville, Georgia a suburb of Atlanta. I have been happily married for 25 years ( believe or not to the same woman ) and have 2 beautiful children, a daughter 19 and a son 15. My daughter attends SMU in Dallas and my son will be entering the 9th grade. I was diagonosed with Parkinson's approximately 2 months ago and we all know how devasting that announcement is. My immediate thoughts were sorrow, anger, confusion and concern over my ability to provide for my family. After the initial shock I decided to fight this disease. I enlisted the help of my family which in addition to my wife and 2 children included a mother, 4 sisters and a brother. We go through life thinking many things are important to find that your family is always there and the most important part of our life. They are all most supportive in the sincerest fashion. My fight is based on calling Parkinson's a disorder not a disease, consistent excercise, a positive attitide, taking my medication, and reading and researching the disease as much as possible. I am convinced that I must maintain a positive attitude to live well with Parkinson's, although we all know that is an uphill battle some times. I am very fortunate to have met with Dr Ray Watts a physican at Emory University who is deeply involved with the Movement Disorders Program. Dr Watts is well versed in Parkinson's and gives you the strength, commitment and knowledge to maintain a positive attitide. He is very encouraged about the future and sees a future that has new drugs and treatments that can help us all live well with Parkinson's who knows maybe even a cure. I am 49 years old and want to live a full and enjoyable life. I am convinced I can achieve this goal with the support of family, friends and my belief in God. Best Wishes to all and I know we will all be communicating in the future. Leonard Cyphers [log in to unmask]
