I understand that this is also one of the hassles that we have with the
NIH. They can take their basic research into neurology and assign it to
Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, Huntington's - virtually any neurological
disorder - to prove almost any point that they want. Right now they are
said to be juggling figures to prove that they don't want or need the Udall
bill to tell them where they should spend the money that Congress gives them.
The protein alpha-synuclein, for example, has recently been discussed as
one way Alzheimer's and Parkinson's research tie together.
After Congress passes the Udall bill this year we will still need our
Parkinson organizations to monitor that the money is actually appropriated
and spent the way that Congress intended, and to keep us PWP's informed
about what the research has accomplished so that we may make wise choices.
