The effect of Eldepryl is twofold.  First of all, it is a mono amine
oxide inhibitor.  Mono amine oxide scavenges used dopamine and by
inhibiting its action, there is more dopamine left.  The second
effect is less certain.  Eldepryl supposedly slows down the
progression of Parkinson's disease, but to the jury is still out on
that one.

Since Eldepryl does not really increase the amount of dopamine,
there is no improvement in symptoms from using it.  That is why you
did not notice any improvement when you took Eldepryl by itself.
The actual effect in this case was probably to reduce the rate of
degradation.
