I was at my mom's PD specialist, Dr. Fazzini last week. He has been
involved in the Mirapex(Pramipexole) testing for the last 4 years at
New York University, and says that he has many patients already on
Mirapex since it has been approved by the FDA. He told her to switch
immediately from the 3 and 1/2 mg. of Permax daily, to 5 mg. of
Mirapex. Instead of taking .75 permax 4 times a day, she is to use 1
mg. of Mirapex, and for the last .5 of Permax, she is to use 1/2 mg.
     of Mirapex.
She (80,6) started this regimen on Sunday, three days ago, and has
had no side effects. She even went to her senior center today without
a cane. Until now, she has been too frightened to try it without a
     walker.
Now, I don't attribute this big change just to the Mirapex. About 2
months ago she started on 5 siminet (25/100) a day, and started seeing
big progress then. I think she just finally feels so much better
because of the last few months (plus whatever Mirapex adds) that the 2
drugs together are giving her a greater sense of confidence in her
     balance.
She has been able to take the sinimet because she takes 2 motilium
with each pill to help get rid of the nausea that used to prevent her
from taking sinimet. She will try to move down to only 1 motilium at a
time in 2 weeks, and see how that works out.
