Announcing the SmithKline Beecham Caring Hands Award

A Caregiver Recognition Program in Partnership with the National
Parkinson Foundation

--------------------------------------------------------------------
----

More than 25 million Americans care for a family member or friend
suffering from a debilitating illness such as Parkinson's disease. The
National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) and SmithKline Beecham (SB)
recognize the crucial role that caregivers play in the lives of our
Parkinson's patients, therefore, it is with great pleasure that NPF and
SB announce the establishment of the SmithKline Beecham Caring Hands
Award. The purpose of this award is to acknowledge the contributions of
outstanding Parkinson's disease caregivers across the United States.

Quality of life is so important when it comes to debilitating diseases
such as Parkinson's, and NPF and SB realize that Parkinson's disease
caregivers for a great part determine the quality of life a person with
Parkinson's will live. Implementing this award program creates a means
for NPF and SB to honor special caregivers on both a local and national
level who have dedicated their lives to improving the quality of life
of a person with Parkinson's disease.

As part of this new program, one special caregiver from each of NPF's
Centers across the United States will be selected as a local SB Caring
Hands Award recipient. Local recipients will receive recognition in
their community and be entered into the NPF/SB Caring Hands Finals
where five outstanding caregivers will be chosen for national
recognition. Furthermore, these five esteemed caregivers and their
patients will receive all expense paid trips to NPF's international
headquarters in Miami, Florida where they will attend NPF's spectacular
Annual International Gala for Hope, courtesy of SmithKline Beecham
