Dear friends---I feel moved to give onemore report on Peter's current
situation after the crisis last Tuesday with Mirapex. Many folks on the
PD and CARE lists have experienced few or no problems with it, which means
that as usual with PD "different strokes for different folks" is the rule!
>From the suggestions and comment on the lists it has become clear to me
that there are probably several reasons why Peter reacted as he did:
   1. He has not tolerated either Permax or Parlodel, and had some
BENIGN hallucinations (visual) with the latter--thus he may be
as Charlie Meyer said, "predisposed" to this reaction.
2.. He had an undiagnosed bladder infection, despite being on a
low dose of Trimethoprim for several months, and such can also
cause confusion and paranoia, we are told.(Not only by thelist, but also
by the ER doc and the Home Care nurse later.)
   3. His neuro, who had read the package insert but had no other experience
with Mirapex refused my suggestion (based on the listmember's posts)
that Sinemet be reduced right away. He wanted to "see how P. does
       till next appointment",which isn't until 8/22! Thus P. was getting a
dose of dopa which may have put him over the top, plus the bladder
infection. Small wonder he had a problem?

At present, having come home in a wheelchair Fri. AM, he is bedridden,
low in spirits, and not eating. Home Health care is helpful. It may not
be enough, however. I have tried cutting down on the nighttime Sinemets
as was suggested on the list, to see if that diminishes the bad dreams he
was having since return home. Present Sinemet schedule:
2 of the 10/100 every 3 hours 'round the clock, except
for 10PM and 4 AM, when he gets only 1.
 Also takes Propulsid,Florinef,Lactulose,Prozac(40mg/day),Trimethoprim
and just started a multivitamin/mineral supplement instead of just C and E.

This may be more than some of you need/want to know, but please excuse the
carbon copying, as it's the easiest way to fill in all those who have been
supporting us--so much appreciated! I have shared the posts with Peter, and
we are both much comforted and appreciative. :-)
