Janet,

You have done us all a great favor with your last post describibg the new
PD drugs which will soon be available. Several observations seem in order.

First, It becomes increasingly necesary to find a neurologist who
specializes in PD. The internist has had to yield to the neurologist, and
now the general neurologist must yield to the PD specialist. The sheer
volume and variety of strategies (drug and non-drug alike) available
require a specialist's time and attention and interest.

Second, and this may sound like a paradox, PD has so many symptoms, and so
many drugs each one of which has its own bag of tricks and side effects,
and there are so many different sorts of PWP, that when one of us describes
some bizarre symptom or strange side effect, we are at once being atypical
and typical, on the fringe and in the mainstream. We are (Walt Whitman
says "Do I contadict myself? Well, I contain multitudes)," legion, and
none can contain us.

Finally, the first paragraph tells us we must take our care in our own
hands and search out the proper physician; the second that we must honor
our plurality
and our unity. We must be patient with the description of other's symptoms
and with their feelings. It may be that the Lord of Misrule has us on his
list for the same thing. We must also be brief with our posts tha all get
a fair chance to be heard.

With that, I will take my own advice and declare this at an end.
