> PLEASE PASS THIS INFORMATION ALONG.... Virus Alert > There is a new virus going around in the last couple of days!!! >DO NOT open or even look at any mail that you get that says: >"Returned or Unable to Deliver" . The virus will attach >itself to your computer components and render them useless. >Immediately delete any mail items that say this. AOL has >indicated this is a very dangerous virus, and there is NO >remedy for it at this time, Please Be Careful, and forward to >all your on-line friends A.S.A.P. Please do not open up any mail > that has this title. It will erase your whole hard drive. >This is a new e-mail virus and not a lot of people know about >it, just let everyone know, so they won't be a victim. >Please forward this e-mail to your friends!!! Please DON'T forward this virus warning... it is almost certainly a hoax. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN E-MAIL VIRUS. You cannot get a computer virus by opening and reading E-mail... only by downloading and executing any attached binary files. These hoaxes have fooled a lot of people, even corporate information security departments that had never seen them before. An ASCII (text) file cannot, however, do anything to your computer. There is a Word for Windows macro virus ("Concept,") but a Word file is a binary. Also, you must open it in Word before the virus can infect your machine. Again, the "Good Times" and "Pen Pal" viruses are hoaxes... the only thing that replicates itself is the well-intentioned warning! -Bill
