Emotional Intelligence Differs Between The Sexes
------------------------------------------------------------------------

TORONTO and BUFFALO, NY, Aug 21 (Reuters) - When it comes to emotional
intelligence, the genders both have it in relatively equal measure, but
according to a new study, there are several notable differences between men
and women.

While women seem to have significantly stronger interpersonal skills, men
appear to have a stronger sense of self.

The study was conducted by Multi-Health Systems, Inc. (MHS), a company
engaged in the development of standardized and integrated behavioral
assessment and diagnostic products as well as practice and treatment
management products and services.

The company measured the emotional intelligence of 4,500 males and 3,200
females in the US and Canada using the BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory
test.

According to Dr. Steven Stein, President of MHS, "Our results suggest that
women are more aware of their feelings and those of others and are more
socially responsible, whereas men seem to have stronger self-regard and
cope better with stress.

"These findings may have important implications in the workplace.

"In the past, men may have dominated the upper corporate echelon partly due
to their high levels of stress tolerance.

"As people skills become more important, however, women's strengths in
interpersonal areas will help them to reach those higher levels."
