Dear List Members, Nancy's (52/22) recovery from the back surgery is continuing at a pace well ahead of schedule. We came home Friday, just 2 and 1/2 days after surgery. This was our choice. Insurance would have covered a much longer stay. She is mobile, very alert and sleeping very well. The last two nights we both got 8 hours with just one bathroom wake-up call. She is still having plenty of pain from the two large incisions. The smaller incision where they took the bone graft is the most painful. It is just above the buttocks so she has one big pain in the you know what. The PD has been stable since we left the recovery room. The Mirapex .5 mg every six hours combined with sinemet 10/100s every two hours is working great. We also add two amantadine one in the morning and one in the evening. It's still to soon to predict the overall benefit of the back surgery which fused, screwed, hooked and put rods in to straighten out and support L2-L5, but she sure looks a lot better. I don't want to over use the word miracle. But this is the second time in 3 years that Nancy has come through some major surgery in fantastic shape. If the ultimate objective of reducing/eliminating her back pain does occur, it will be pretty high on our miracles rating scale. These results won't be known for weeks but recovery from the surgery looks like it will be speedy. Who knows she may try to win the PD world golf tournament next year. But first we have to get the Udall Bill passed. After all this suffering that would be one heck of a way to end 1997. -- [log in to unmask] Kingwood, TX
