Dennis G....

Hey Dennis.... Ojai is one of those unique places that has it's own
"other-worldly" flavor. It's pretty much kept itself from rampant
commercialism, except during the annual Ojai Jazz Festival. Because of it's
inland location, it CAN be miserably hot there in the summer, but since it's
only 12 miles from the lovely white-sand beaches of Ventura, ya can always
cool off by taking a dip in the ocean... <smile>

I know you'd enjoy both Ojai and Bart's Corner! Ohhh... and while you're in
Ojai, DO make sure you dine at The Ranch House. Get a table in the garden,
and enjoy the harpsichord and chamber music while you munch on their
absolutely yummy home made bread.

Barb M,

Your description of Ojai and Barts Corners paints a vivid
picture in my mind. Ojai sounds worlds away from anywhere.
If I should ever find myself in LA, Ojai will be top of my list of
places to visit. In fact it sounds like a wonderfull place for
me to be whilst the kids 'do' Disneyland (I'm not what you'd
call a lover of theme parks).

Reminds me of the island of Guernsey where I lived in the early '80's.
They have a custom known as the 'hedge shop'. All over the island
people sell produce and flowers on the roadside. The price list is
propped up alongside the unattended display and a glass jar is provided
for the money. 15 years ago it was not unusual to see the jar full of
coins
and notes. On a visit to Guernsey 18 mnths ago I noticed that the jars
tended to be empty of all but a few bits of change. Apparently it is no
longer prudent to let the money build up. Signs of the times. Incidently
many of the roads on Guernsey are similar to those recently described by
Brian Collins in his account of the road(s) to the isles. Fortunately
caravans are seldom encountered in the 'Lanes' of Guernsey. The
major traffic hazzard there is finding the entire road blocked by stationary
Range Rovers whose millionaire, tax exile owners are buying tomatoes
off the hedge.

Thank God this world is full of quaint places.

Dennis.
