Hooray!! In case you havent heard the Senate passed the Wellstone-McCain amendment (ie the Udall bill) to the Labor-HHS appropriations bill tonight by a vote of 95-3 (Ashcroft, Enzi and Jeffords were the no's). Now the appropriations bill must be passed and reconciled favorably with the House version to have the Udall bill as law. Coats offered another amendment, to be voted on later tonight, that bans fetal tissue research on aborted fetuses for Parkinson's research only. I do not think it has a chance although the vote will be closer than for the Udall authorization bill. Perry Cohen
