To those of you who haven't already heard I am is pleased to report that
the United States Senate yesterday approved the Morris K. Udall
Parkinson's Research and Education Act. The Udall Bill was attached as
an amendment to the Appropriations Bill for the Departments of Labor,
Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies and received a
vote of 95-3.

The Udall Amendment now goes to the House of Representatives where it
will be considered there as part of the Labor, HHS Appropriations Bill.

Both Senators McCain and Wellstone in their remarks in support of the
Udall Bill on the floor of the Senate specifically recognized the
advocacy all of our advocacy efforts that were focused on achieving
equity in Federal funding for Parkinson's disease research.

Senator Wellstone gave special recognition to ,Muhammad Ali,for the
courage and commitment he has shown in his public support for more
Parkinson research funding. Senator Wellstone made reference to Mr. Ali's
testimony appearance last April before a congressional committee where
her urged enactment and funding of the Udall Bill.

We now must focus our attention on the House of Representatives where the
Labor, HHS Appropriations bill needs to pass in order to realize
enactment of the Udall Bill.Specific strategy in this regard with be
communicated to you shortly.

In the meantime we need to demonstrate our grateful appreciation and
thanks to Senators McCain and Wellstone for their valiant efforts on our
behalf.
