Got to finally put in my two cents (60 mills after inflation) worth on the
topic.

I think a practical solution is one that was suggested before: USE TOPIC
DESCRIPTORS IN THE SUBJECT LINE.

Everybody could submit their list of appropriate headers and a ubiquitous
SOMEONE (I volunteer -- you didn't hear that!) can merge them together and
post them for all to use.

For instance, one topic could be drugs with subtopics being either the
class of drugs or the drug name or both.

EX: SUBJ: DRUGS, DOPAMINE AGONISTS, MIRAPEX

Then those who only want information on current drugs would zero in on
those and ignore those messages with topics such as BANTER, HUMOR, and
CHIT-CHAT.

This would have the additional advantage of making it a lot easier to
retrieve on topic messages from the archives.

(Okay, so I only put in 1.5 cents worth!)
