Hi Donna,
In regards to your question about the dosage of vitamin E ... the RDA
recommendations are the bare minimum established to maintain health. Amounts
above the RDAs are theaputic levels.

Such as taking additional vitamin C at the first sign of a cold. Knocks the
thing right out of you within 2 days. This would be using a vitamin at a
theraputic level. The RDA for vitamin is too low, and due to all the
positive test trials this vitamin has been through lately, look for the RDA
to raise its recommendation in the near future.

Most studies involved used 200 - 400 IUs of vitamin E. Vitamin E is a
powerful antioxidant, and 400 IUs is the usual theraputic recommendation. In
a recent Alzheimer's trial, 800 - 1600 IUs were tested against a dose of 400
IUs. It was found that the amounts above 800 IUs were mostly not utilized by
the body.

The patients taking up to 800 IUs a day had an increase in cognative function
over those who were not given vitamin E, and were able to delay entering a
nursing home for 18 months beyond the control group who were not given
vitamin E.

In my humble opinion, this is one vitamin that shouldn't be skipped -- a dose
of 400 IUs a day is very beneficial.

Give it a try, and suggest your relatives do too.
