Ivan, I have a few more random thoughts, that may be of help. Any time an
organization is threatened by a client, especially if legal action may be
imminent, the first reaction seems to be to shift blame, cover up mistakes,
feign ignorance, the list goes on...NO ONE wants to be the individual who is
going to pay in cash, or prestige, for the mistake. It seems like they would
spend several times the amount in question in legal fees, and other expenses
to save face. Ironically, you basically just want to break even, so they
should be happy to pay you off and have you go away! I suggest you try to
find a lawyer who will work pro bono, I think the local bar associations can
help you locate one to help you, and see what can be done. You have exhausted
the obvious avenues, and possibly have even put yourself in a position where
they might try to countersue for defamation, not a nice thought, but it can
happen. Actually, any doctor who can settle a claim for a few thousand
dollars, should buy his lawyer a new Mercedes to show his grattitude. The
lawyer would probably threaten to sue ALL the parties involved, many of whom
have "deep pockets" and you could even come out ahead, if they blink first. I
had a lawsuit against a car dealer, who refused to do anything else for me,
and when they got the first call from my lawyer, all of a sudden, they could
not do enough! I ended up with a cash settlement, because I did not trust
them to touch my car again, but that was my choice. SO, good luck, and like
everyone says, don't let it keep consuming you, life is too short, even the
bad days! Ken B
