Jackie....

While I certainly hope that Bob gets to stay in the hospital at least one nite
after the pallidotomy... just in case... when I had my own pallidotomy in Oct.
of '94, one of the options I was given by Dr. Iacono was to have the surgery
done on an out-patient basis. What I'd do if that was my choice was to
merely return to the hotel, post-surgery, where I'd stayed the night before
the surgery.

While I chose to stay in the hospital (Loma Linda University Hospital) the
night right after the surgery, I was back hone and working full-time less than
24 hours after the pallidotomy.

Believe me, I wasn't trying to prove anything, either. Other than a slight
headache and profound daily fatigue each afternoon, I felt just fine!

Sooooo, m'dear, "out-patient" IS "doable" for a pallidotomy patient, if
there's no other option.

Much love to both you 'n Bob...

Subject: Pallidotomy -- Outpatient??

No, I am not joking. Today the surgeon's office called to schedule Bob's
pallidotomy and they explained that they are having some difficulty with the
insurance company, BCBS of Florida. BCBS told them that this procedure
should be done on an outpatient basis. Yes, the girl at the surgeon's
office did ask to speak to a nurse coordinator, but the reply was the same.
Currently, we are waiting for their Director of Ins. to phone the surgeon.
The girl at the surgeon's office said they have NEVER encountered such a
thing. Has anyone ever heard of this before? perhaps this is just a
Florida thing?

Anyway, we are very hopeful (outpatient or inpatient) the surgery is
scheduled for this Friday (9/26) !! this is perfect because Bob's 47
birthday is the next day, 9/27!
