        I use Eudora Pro as well.  What operating system (OS) are you using.
Unless there are resource restrictions you needn't go to that much trouble.
 Have you tried double clicking on the image of the attachment in the mail
message.  Doing that, on my system, launches the appropriate application so
I can view the attachment.  The Windows operating system, and I'm assuming
that that is what you are using, handles multiple applications at once so
there's no need to close Eudora.  Let me know what OS you're using and
maybe I can give you specific key strokes to make things easier.
