This aspect of our settlement responds to intense pressure by the -- now former -- regime at Atkinson College on departments to convert courses to correspondence or internet formats as part of an ill-conceived campaign to develop distance education. It also speaks to insistence of administators -- many of whom had never used computer technology in the classroom -- that the technology would allow us to teach enormous classes efficiently, cheaply and -- last but not least - well.
