Hi to all:
I seem to have developed a new symptom that I haven't seen complained about
on the list (hard to believe?!), and I would like to know if it's common or
even PD related. Since I've been told by one specialist I have some form
of MSA, it might be that.

It has to do with breathing and the choke reflex. You know when you try to
take a breath in a smoky or dust-filled room and your body tells you that's
not safe by shutting off the epiglottis? That's what happens when I lie
down at night and keeps me from going to sleep (choking will do that!),
sometimes in the moring on awaking, less frequently during the day but
still occasionally. After a few spasms I can concentrate on deep breaths
and "talk" myself out of it; it may start up again in a minute or two but
never lasts very long--5 minutes or so thank goodness--but it's sure scary.

I have an appt. with Dr. Jankovic at Baylor's Movement Disorder Center on
10/29 but wanted to see if anyone else had this. The fact that I can
control it somewhat leads me to believe it's psychosomatic and due to
stress. Any thoughts? Thanks for listening anyway. What would we do
without our PD family?
