I did indeed enjoy your Email back to me. A touch of the Blarney makes a nice change from what we usually get (Blather) on this wonderful internet. I am sure that you will find in a year or so that you are welcoming newcomers, and offering them advice. In the meantime, let me start you off with a couple of items. First, you should join my one-man campaign, called 'Doctors are only people'! So many people would not dream of questioning anything that their Doctor says to them. But consider this: The average GP here in England has 3 patients on his books. He can't be an expert on such a tiny slice of his costomers. Indeed, if and when you go to your local hospital or where ever you go to find a neurologist to give a second opinion (Something every one of us should do) you may find that, unless your neurologist happens to be a specialist in movement disorders, even he is quite capable of giving you questionable advice. It comes as a shock, but you have been shoved into the front line and you may find that in the end the only person who knows how you feel is you! Second; You no doubt know that the main ingredient of the tablets at the centre of the drug treatment of PD is lovodopa, which gets turned into Dopamine in the brain. Now levodopa has to survive an incredible journey on its way to the brain, the first of these adventures being the transfer from the lower intestine into the bloodstream. The levodopa is attacked by Protein in your stomach, and you may find (as I did) that cheese can put a sort of lining on the stomach which blocks the way for the levodopa. The best compromise is to arrange your meal times and meals so that you take your tablets about 20 to 30 minutes bafore your meal. That way you will get the full benefit of the tablets. Good luck to you, Regards, -- Brian Collins <[log in to unmask]>
