Hello Patients and Caregivers Barbara Patterson invited me, a new subscriber, to introduce myself to others. I am 58, a librarian and my husband Tom, an artist, is 54. He was diagnosed as having Parkinsons in 93, but a doctor here at MUSC thought he may have also had some minor strokes. The scan was inconclusive. Tom has always moved slowly, even losing some commercial art jobs because he wasn't fast enough. His tremor is mostly in his right arm, with his leg involved occasionally. He has been very depressed since we moved to Charleston in April 1996, partly because he has not been able to find a job. He had one for two months, but was laid off because he didn't work fast enough. He has taught some art courses, but gets very upset with grading portion. His last class was canceled and I think he will not be asked to teach any more. Even teaching one course is almost overwhelming for him. Yesterday he fell when he was taking the garbage out. Today we found out my job is not being outsourced, so we are both feeling better because our future is a little more secure. Tom was turned down for disability, but he is trying again. Tom doesn't really want to learn about parkinsons, but I do. I have problems coping with his depression, trying to keep a balance between keeping him moving to trying to do too much. Neither of us have much support locally but need to do more there. Glad to find you all. Ann Moore [log in to unmask]
