My first e-mail, hope it helps. Please let me know if it is "Old News". My mother was diagnosed over 12 years ago with PD. Since then she has faired quite well short of the last 4 months. 1. She had brain surgery over a year ago that completely stopped her shaking on the right side of her body, yes COMPLETELY. She was back to square dancing in a week. 2. She went in for her second surgery(the left side of her body)about four months ago. Assuming she would recover to the same degree as her first brain surgery, she scheduled a foot surgery 2 weeks after her brain surgery. Mistakes- It takes 3-4 weeks after the brain surgery to discover the total improvements. She scheduled foot surgery within that time. End result- The brain surgery didn't take, and the foot surgery took 3 times longer than usual to heal because of PD. This caused her to be bed ridden even until now, although she is improving rapidly and is in the process of scheduling a second brain surgery. What went wrong- PD brought about a symptom called "Hammer Toes". Which caused her toes to curl under. Her doctor, even after second opinions, chose NOT to pin her toes. Ending in an extremely long an painful recovery. The other doctors said, "We always pin PD patients toes". She also didn't give the brain surgery enough time to notice its effects. Be blessed all! Also- Are all of you familiar with this brain surgery? It is local, meaning you walk out the same day! If not I will post the doctors info. Jim Gill [log in to unmask]
