Sex poll shows Americans would rather shop free
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

MIAMI (October 28, 1997 01:22 a.m. EST http://www.nando.net) - Sex beats
riding the space shuttle or being president for a day, but half of all
Americans would rather go on a free shopping spree, a survey published on
Tuesday showed.

Americans love to make love -- they are edged out only by the French in the
14-nation survey.

But when asked to choose between sex and an unlimited shopping spree on
someone else's gold credit card, 57 percent of American women found the
latter option more appealing.

For men it was 42 percent, giving a full 50 percent across the sexes who
would rather be shopping, the survey said.

British-owned condom manufacturer Durex asked 1,055 U.S. men and women aged
over 18 to talk about sex-related issues as part of a survey of almost
10,000 people in 14 countries.

The U.S. part of the survey found that more than half of Americans would
rather make love than be a guest on the next space shuttle, and 50 percent
would rather make love than be president of the United States for a day.

Among other findings, the survey said 71 percent of American men were
satisfied with the size of their partner's breasts and 73 percent were
happy with the size of their own sexual organ.

By contrast 57 percent of U.S. women were happy with their own breast size
and 58 percent were satisfied with the size of their partner's sexual organ.

Only a minority would resort to the knife to change things, though.

The survey said 20 percent of American men would choose to have their
partner's breasts surgically enlarged and 18 percent would have their own
sexual organ enhanced.

It found that 19 percent of women would have their breasts enlarged but
only 10 percent were interested in having their man's sexual organ enlarged.

The global poll found that Americans were making love an average 148 times
a year in 1997, second only to the French who averaged 151 times.

In the world's sexual fantasies, though, American Hollywood stars ended up
on top.

The survey found that worldwide, 45 percent of women thought Tom Cruise
would be best in bed. For men around the world, Demi Moore was the fantasy
figure of choice, polling 38 percent.
