My apologies to Betty Martini - in my previous e-mail, in an effort to get it out to the list in a hurry, I gave her a wrong last name in error. Haste makes waste, they say. Sorry, Betty. Meanwhile, she also forwarded this memo, which I in turn forward to the list: << ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Sun, 4 May 1997 21:06:53 -0400 (EDT) From: [log in to unmask] To: [log in to unmask] Cc: [log in to unmask] Subject: Hidden Sources of MSG As promised, here is a list of hidden sources of MSG: (One really has to read labels. After a while you get used to what is harmful. I agree, it is a super pain at first, but well worth it to preserve your health and maybe even save your life when it comes to aspartame. We know of several people who have died of aspartame disease.) Any more questions, just Email me. I am here to help in any way I can. MSG sensitive people have reported reactions to soaps, shampoos, hair conditioners, and cosmetics that contain hidden MSG. The most obvious common hiding places are in ingredients called "hydrolyzed protein" and "amino acids." Drinks, candy and chewing gum are also potential sources of hidden MSG. Also aspartic acid, found in aspartame (NutraSweet) ordinarily cause MSG type reactions in MSG sensitive people. Aspartame is found in some medications. Check with your pharmacist. Binders and fillers for medications, nutrients, and supplements, both prescription and non-prescription, including enteral feeding materials and some fluids administered intravenously in hospitals, may contain MSG.
