DRUGS CONTRAINDICATED FOR PARKINSON'S DISEASE PATIENTS
The term "contraindicated" essentially means that the drug in question=20
should not be given to a Parkinsonsian. In Parkinson's disease, the basic=20
problem is the chemical nature of the disease itself. many drugs alter the=20
brain's dopamine system and may not be recognized as habing a potential=20
detrimental effect on Parkinson's disesae simply because the drugs are=20
employed for the treatment of other conditions. All patients with =20
Parkinson's disease should have a list of these drugs available for their=20
physician's reference and for emergency situations.
This list was compiled by Paul A. Nausieda, MD, Director of the APDA
Information & Referral Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 1800-972-5455.
