Rushing to tell you that I have been on the exact dosages of Sinemet and
Amantadine (Symmetrel) that Art is taking for nine years and I took
Sinemet alone for five years previous to that. The efficacy of these
drugs are as good today as they were 14 years ago; therefore, I am not
sure whether the disease has not progressed during this time or whether
the disease has progressed but the meds have "kept up" with the progres-
sion. I have no reason not to feel confident that Sinemet will remain
effective for me for many more years.

I see nothing wrong with Art trying one of the new drugs without taking
Sinemet to see if he does well at this early stage of pd, and if this is
what he wishes to do, he should make this known to his doctor. However,
if he does not receive the help with this treatment that he desires or
feels he needs at this time, I personally feel he should not hesitate to
go back to taking Sinemet. I realize others may have had different exper-
iences with the early and long-term usage of Sinemet... I am only relaying
to you what my experience has been during the 19 years I have had pd.

If you or anyone else has any questions, I would be happy to receive them.

Warmest Regards,
