BECOMES LAW!

President Clinton signs the Labor, Education, and HHS Appropriations Bill=20
in White House Ceremony


November 13, 1997; Washington, D.C.--  At 10:40 a.m. in the East Room of the
White House, Vice President Gore, Cabinet Secretaries Rile and Herman,
Members of Congress and invited guests witnessed the signing of the Labor,
Education and Health and Human Services Appropriations Bill by President
Clinton,  In doing so the Morris K. Udall Parkinson=92s Research and=
 Education
Act, as amended to the FY 1998 Labor, Health and Human Services
Appropriations Bill, officially became law.

Representing the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) at the
ceremony was Paul Smedberg  of the APDA Washington, D.C. office.

President Clinton in his speech acknowledged the importance of bio-medical
research and made special note of Parkinson=92s Disease.  At that point
President Clinton acknowledged Mrs. Udall and Congressman Fred Upton (R-MI)
the principal sponsor of the Udall Bill in the U.S. House of=
 Representatives.

WHAT=92S THE NEXT STEP?=20

Now the APDA will focus its attention on the next battle-making  SURE THE
Senate and House Appropriations Committees fully fund the Udall Parkinson=92=
s
Bill authorization.  The Udall Bill authorizes up to $100 million for
research focused on Parkinson=92s Disease.  The APDA is going to win this=
 next
battle with your continued advocacy efforts.

(D-MN) and Congressman Fred Upton (R-MI) and Henry Waxman (D-CA) who
sponsored the bill. Thank your congressperson and senator if  they
co-sponsored the bill.
