Melinda... With all due respect, one or two public service announcements, no matter how well they convey the message and no matter the celebrity status of the individual(s) featured in the announcements just isn't going to do the job of making Parkinson's Disease a "household word." To do THAT... to make everyone.... the entire populous of the nation AND the world ... there needs to be CONSTANT reminders THEY and their loved ones can get this disease and live with - no matter their age - and suffer with it for YEARS and YEARS and YEARS. AND they should be forced to see that Parkinson's IS a killer-disease! As a role model, using HIV/AIDS associations, agencies, and public- awareness grass-roots movements AND with the addition of a tremendous amount of ONGOING time, effort, and money - from some of the world's most prominent movie and TV stars PD advertising - well... the NPF and the other PD agencies ain't done NOTHING yet! Read my lips - N O T H I N G!!!!! The NPF and other Parkinson's advocacy agencies are next to USELESS when it comes to making the general public CONSTANTLY aware of the tragedy that is the legacy of this miserable disease!! Ms. Brown - I'm not in the advertising business, but even _I_ could do a better job of making the public aware of horrors of living with Parkinson's than the NPF has done! And so could half the members of this List - given the same financial resources!! This ad will be distributed to television stations nationally in Jan '98. It is our hope that by funding and producing this PSA, we will create the much needed awareness for Parkinson's disease which will in turn help raise the needed funds for research.
