This message is being cross-posted. Please excuse any duplication--------------------------------------- The Center for Chronic Disorders offers unique medical programs that will be of major interest to the 100 million Americans suffering from chronic diseases. Please review and make this information widely available. Thank you. This approach offers a new perspective on chronic disease--one which focuses on enlivening the body's inner intelligence to stimulate and enhance internal self-repair mechanisms so healing can occur naturally from within. Time For a New Approach The need for a new approach to all chronic diseases was recently highlighted by a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (1). The study found that 100 million Americans suffer from one or more chronic diseases despite the expenditure of $425 billion each year to fight these conditions. Furthermore, the study projected that the number of people with chronic diseases will increase by another 35 million over the next 25 years. In addition, many scientific studies have documented that the drugs, surgery, and other conventional treatments for these conditions carry significant risks and can produce harmful side effects. Now, an organization of concerned physicians has established The Center For Chronic Disorders--one of the nation's first facilities specially devoted to integrating natural approaches into the management of chronic conditions. Programs are offered for individuals with the following disorders: Coronary heart disease Hypertension Chronic bronchitis Bronchial asthma Chronic sinusitis Chronic headache Rheumatoid arthritis Osteoarthritis Chronic fatigue Chronic back pain Diabetes (non-insulin dependent) Overweight Psoriasis Eczema Chronic kidney disease Benign prostatic hyperplasia Chronic liver disease Gallstones Hyperacidity Peptic ulcer Irritable bowel syndrome Inflammatory bowel disease Menstrual problems Menopausal syndrome Depression Chronic anxiety Insomnia Connective tissue diseases Hypothyroidism Hyperthyroidism Alzheimer's disease Parkinson's disease Multiple sclerosis In addition, special programs may be structured for individuals with other chronic conditions. Promoting Health From Within Many of the natural treatment programs offered at The Center for Chronic Disorders are based on pioneering work done by Tony Nader, M.D., Ph.D., a neuroscientist whose detailed analysis of human physiology links the structures and functions of the body to an "inner intelligence" that underlies and administers all physiological functions. The programs of The Center aim to enliven this inner intelligence in order to restore health. The principle is to treat disease by awakening health from within--just as darkness is dispelled with the onset of light. Restoring Balance The goal of the Center's program is to normalize physiological functioning by promoting balance between mind and body, consciousness and physiology, the individual and the environment. As a first step, new patients undergo a medical examination. A highly personalized treatment program is then prescribed that addresses the needs of the individual patient. Patients receive daily treatment as well as comprehensive health education--instruction in how to maintain a healthy, balanced life through a system of continuing self-care. In addition to the program, comfortable hotel accommodations are provided, with meals that support the prescribed regimen of therapy. The Center for Chronic Disorders is staffed by physicians, nurses and specially trained technicians who assist in the administering of natural treatments. Patients who enter the program are never asked to discontinue care provided by their family physician or specialist. Treating the whole person The Center incorporates into its program elements typically not contained in conventional medical practice. These approaches are traditionally described as promoting the body's own capacity for self-repair. They include: * Techniques for managing health from its foundation--the field of consciousness, and for alleviating the stress that frequently suppresses the body's homeostatic, self-repair mechanisms. * A unique system of pulse diagnosis that is understood to reveal imbalances or weaknesses in the physiology and help the physician identify the root cause and degree of imbalance. Individuals are taught how to monitor their own pulse and adjust diet and routines according to this self-diagnosis. * Individualized purification therapies and herbalized oil applications, to eliminate impurities in the body that accumulate over time from improper diet, stress and other factors, and which obstruct the flow of the body's inner intelligence. * Special herbal food supplements, consisting of herbs found only in certain parts of the world, to help nourish and restore balance in the body. Modern scientific research has demonstrated that several of these supplements are powerful free-radical scavengers (2). * Personalized programs of healthy diet and exercise, to enliven the body's self-repair mechanisms and correct underlying imbalances. * Instruction in health-promoting behavior, including daily and seasonal routines to maintain harmony between the individual and the environment. * Influence of the near environment--promotion of mental and physical balance through the beneficial orientation and layout of one's home and workplace. * Influence of the distant environment--techniques to promote integration with the cycles and rhythms of nature, including those of the sun, moon, planets, and stars. * Methods for enhancing collective health throughout the whole population. Physicians' Association for Eradicating Chronic Disease The Physicians' Association for Eradicating Chronic Disease, formed May 1997 with participation of medical doctors from across the United States, was established with the goal of creating a safer, more complete system of health care to prevent illness, treat the root cause of disease and promote ideal health. To accomplish these goals, the Association has launched a Campaign to Create a Disease-Free Society. It is participating in the opening of 435 Centers for Chronic Disorders--one in each congressional district-- including in-residence facilities near the 40 largest metropolitan areas. Each Center will offer programs that integrate natural health care into the prevention and treatment of chronic disorders. Scientific Research Research on treatment approaches utilized at the Center for Chronic Disorders has demonstrated improvements in specific chronic conditions, including high blood pressure (3), heart disease (4), and bronchial asthma (5,6), as well as reductions in cholesterol (7), improved overall vitality and well-being, and improved mental health (8). Research on medical care utilization in individuals utilizing components of the Center's program has found a 65 percent reduction in hospitalizations, including 92 percent reduction for cardiovascular diseases, 76 percent for neurological disorders, and 94 percent for musculoskeletal disorders (9). How to Learn More An exhibition on the Center's programs for treatment of chronic diseases is on display. Health educators are available daily to introduce you to the natural treatment programs at the Center. Prospective patients may begin the program by completing a Health Evaluation Form, available at the Center, by mail, or e-mail.
