This would depend largely on the commitment of the community to withold funds from organizations which do not cooperate. If any one of the major parkinson's organizations lost half its revenue for six months, I bet there would be some rapid changes. Are there downsides to this approach? One downside would be the cost of maintaining yet another beaurocracy. I see no way around this one, but overhead costs should be reasonably low- a very small organization (a few paid staff plus volunteers should be able to keep the ball rolling). Another downside is the potential for disruption to existing services. This is mitigated by the incentive grants. If an organization makes a good faith effort to move towards unity, they get funds. >> It will never happen. If you cut of enough funds you will wreck havoc with existing research by the private sector. The goal is to increase funding not destroy every thing for some nebulous concept of Unity. Your suggeston assumes that all the national organization want to unify. From a personal observation that is the farthest thing from their minds..Each organization has its own niche or agenda as set by the Board of Directors and they feel that their method is best for the PD Community. Where will you get the funds to fund your new beauracy...insurance, postage, secretarial services, rent and on and on and on to no purpose. Who decides whether and organization has made a good faaith effort toward Unity. Where will the funds to defend against the law suit that would invariable be presented by the agrieved organizations Enough about trying to make the organizations bow to the wishes of the list members. You suggested that PAN be the organization to initially receive the withheld funds. YOU COULDN'T EVEN CAN THIS LIST GROUP TO BACK ONE ORGAZIATION TO THE DETRIMANT OF THE OTHERS.
