I got a handicap hang tag with a letter from my cardiologist saying that I have heart problems and Parkinson's. No hassle, No questions. The charge was$5 for the tag until somebody complained about the cost. All hangtag holders were sent a $5 refund. There was no interest on the $5 the state held for as long as two years. If I wanted to, I could petition the state for the interest on $5 for a year and a half. Let's see, 6% interest on $5 for a year and a half, compounded annually,,,Hmmm, Interest or the first year 30 cents, next half year 15 cents. Total 45 cents. .. Cost of a single 1st class postage stamp 32cents. Maximum gain 13 cents before envelope and paper. Income tax would be about 16 cents and the cost would not be deductible since there is a threshold to be exceeded.Down to 6 cents. I decided not to ask for the interest....I'm a big spender!
