David, here's an MS Word 7.0/W95 challenge that has baffled me and
others ever since I got this PC a year and a half ago: The MS-installed
font for Word is something called "Times New Roman". It may be pretty
but I hate it because I do a lot of text work with column tables, so
I prefer the non-proportional "Courier New".
I can NOT get rid of that damn Times New Roman default! I tried all
the usual advice, including revision of the template normal.dot, but
nothing works. Times New Roman creeps in UNpredictably, when I start
a new document, or a new paragraph, or sometimes when I correct an
inadvertent backspace with "enter". Sometimes when I specify the font
default in the Format/Font dialog box it works, sometimes not. It
works better if I ignore the "default" option, as that usually
reincarnates the Times New Roman. I delete all the superfluous "Word
document 1", 2, 3, etc. that appear whenever I try once more to
change normal.dot. If you can help, you'll be the first of many
experts who have tried and failed. Please reply off-list. Regards,
Joe
