Black Water Stains (12 Dec 97) Ever the inquisitive skeptic, I put a little powdered Sinemet and Los Angeles tap water on an otherwise clean spot of my ordinary glazed porcelain washbasin, where I usually break the tablets in half when preparing my daily pocket stash, and let it dry overnight (This concentrates whatever is dissolved in the water) and whaddya know, black stains just like before! Any chemistry boffins out there, with an idea of what sort of crud we're drinking here? A news item recently noted that, since some of our tap water comes from a volcanic region 300 miles north of here, it contains unusual amounts of arsenic compounds, for example. Maybe old W. C. Fields had the right idea- he never touched the stuff. Cheers, Joe J. R. Bruman (818) 789-3694 3527 Cody Road Sherman Oaks, CA 91403-5013
